One of our good friends who travels to Japan all time recommended an oden restaurant to us in Nagoya. I've had oden in Japan before but not miso oden so I was curious to try it.
My friend Keiko arranged the reservations for us to have dinner at Miyuki. We were all so excited to go and even got a little lost looking for the restaurant.
We got our own table and started ordering food to share together. I was curious when we would eat the oden and realized that we had to get up and go to a common area in the restaurant where we saw a big pot filled with miso broth and sticks. You just pick whatever sticks you want and place it in your individual plates. There was tofu, daikon, meat, balls, etc. I loved the richness of the miso seeping through the meats and vegetables. The broth was very heavy that you have to order other dishes to counteract the flavours. Otherwise, you will be full too quickly if you only eat the miso oden.
At the end of the meal, our server counted how many sticks we had to calculate our bill.
By the time we left, the restaurant was full so I recommend making a reservation if you want to visit Miyuki or to come early.

Have you had oden before?
That's a big meal! I've never tried oden before, I had to google it just now haha.
ReplyDeleteMost of it was small bites and for the oden, you control your portions too.
