The exterior of this church is so simple that you can walk past it and not realize the hidden gem inside. I'm glad that our curiosity lead us inside this church.
I know the saying that "once you see one church, you have seen them all". But I disagree because no one church was the same in Rome and Naples. Each one was different and distinctive. Each one had a different personality and mood to it. Even the exteriors are all different. And I like that very much.
The church of Gesu Nuovo has the dramatic intensity of Baroque architecture. I loved the dramatic frescoes, the grand sculptures, and opulence that it projected.

Thank you!
DeleteThis is a lovely church. Italy has hands down the gorgeous looking churches. The cathedral in Parma is my most recent favourite... the interior is covered in dark frescoes.... its so gothic yet so baroque and mysterious.
ReplyDeleteI agree! OOhhh I would love to see that.
DeleteThis is beautiful dear! XO, Ellese

Thanks Ellese!
DeleteI am such a lover of old Churches and Cathedrals. To be honest, I am not religious myself, but there is just something so spectacular and moving about these old buildings. I am also really fascinated by religious artwork of the middle ages because I find it fascinating that religion played the number one role in artwork during that time period. I really hope to visit the Church of Gesu Nuovo one day. Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures.

I'm not religious as well but I find the architecture fascinating that's why I always go inside the churches in Europe. I love that each church is different.

Woohoo I've been here, too! I think. It's been a while since I've last visited any churches in Italy (last meaning many years ago). These photos are gorgeous! The church is.
